Our DFW fertility center offers IVF for same sex couples and individuals
Dallas IVF is proud to support the LGBT community by providing individuals and couples with multiple family-building options, including IVF for same sex couples and individuals. When men and women visit our DFW fertility center, they are excited to learn that in vitro fertilization with donor eggs or donor sperm can be help them become parents.
IVF for same sex couples and individuals follows the standard IVF process
Our DFW fertility center specializes in IVF, and our program consistently reports some of the highest pregnancy rates in the United States. Our experienced and compassionate fertility specialists and our world-class IVF lab are responsible for these high success rates that bring men and women the joys of parenthood.
- Ovarian stimulation is the first step. During this time, the woman who will provide the eggs takes injectable fertility medications called gonadotropins. Our physicians will monitor her response to the medications using blood tests and ultrasounds every few days.
- Egg retrieval occurs when the woman’s eggs are mature. The woman will receive a “trigger” injection and, approximately 36 hours later, she will visit the office for the outpatient egg retrieval procedure. The woman will be sedated for this 10- to 15-minute procedure, while the fertility specialist retrieves the mature eggs using a thin needle guide and a vaginal ultrasound probe.
- Fertilization in the IVF laboratory begins a few hours after the egg retrieval procedure. The process of fertilization can occur either by placing sperm and eggs together in a petri dish and allowing fertilization to occur on its own, or by injecting sperm directly into each egg, using an advanced procedure called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Our embryologists can also biopsy cells from the embryos and send the cells for preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) to determine which embryos are genetically normal.
- Embryo transfer occurs five days after egg retrieval, for a fresh transfer, when the embryos have reached the blastocyst stage. At this time, the embryos will be placed in the woman’s uterus, and our fertility specialists will instruct the woman on when to have their serum pregnancy test. The embryos can also be frozen for later IVF cycles.
Same sex couples and individuals have many IVF options
Our DFW fertility center makes in vitro fertilization accessible to same sex couples and individuals by offering IVF with donor eggs, donor sperm or donor embryos. Lesbian couples can also take advantage of reciprocal IVF, an arrangement in which one partner donates her eggs and the other partner carries the pregnancy. Reciprocal IVF allows both female partners to play a role in the pregnancy.
