Why Transfer a Single Embryo?

Many couples are hesitant to try infertility treatment despite their dreams of starting a family. Sometimes, this is because they worry that in vitro fertilization (IVF) always leads to multiple pregnancies. In fact, this possibility can be eliminated with a single embryo transfer. A single embryo transfer is well-suited for young patients and donor egg recipients because egg quality is high.

Fertility doctors tend to agree that a single embryo transfer is preferable because there is a reduced risk of complications during pregnancy. A multiple pregnancy has a higher risk of preterm births, which means they are of a lower birth weight and subject to health complications. Sometimes, lifelong health problems, such as developmental delays, can result. Furthermore, a multiple pregnancy is more likely to require a Cesarean section rather than a vaginal birth.

Here at Dallas IVF, we strongly encourage suitable candidates to have a single embryo transfer for the health of mother and baby. To learn more about in vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments, call our fertility clinic in Dallas at (214) 297-0020.
