Book NowYou’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.
There are many potential causes of male infertility. Your semen analysis will test for sperm quantity and quality. Once you have completed your semen analysis, your doctor will review it with you. If there are any abnormal results, your doctor in conjunction with a reproductive urologist, will help evaluate and treat these abnormalities.
- Varicocele: This condition involves an enlargement of the veins in the scrotum which causes issues with temperature regulation of the testicles and can affect the quality of sperm
- Genetic conditions: There are several genetic conditions that cause male infertility such as Klinfelter’s syndrome, cystic fibrosis, SRY gene mutations, and others. Your doctor will discuss if you should be evaluated for these conditions and what risk there is that your offspring may have the same condition.
- Hormonal imbalance: Hormonal imbalance can stem from many different systems in the body. There are a number of hormones that affect male fertility including testosterone.
- Environmental factors: Many larger environmental factors and lifestyle choices affect male fertility. Drinking, smoking, and drug use can lower sperm count and affect quality. Your doctor and support team are there to discuss ways to promote fertility day-to-day which can make a huge difference on your path to a healthy pregnancy.
- Idiopathic: After an evaluation, there may be no reason found as the cause of the abnormal semen parameters. Unfortunately, this can be the case most of the time. While there may be no known cause, there are several treatment options that may help you conceive. Our Dallas IVF physicians would be happy to guide you through those options.
